Garner: Don’t know what to do with all those retired hard drives in your closet? Garner Products, Inc. has answers.
Garner Products manufactures degaussers, equipment that completely eliminates data on magnetic media in just seconds. Small, portable, and operating off a standard wall outlet, our hard drive degaussers and physical destroyers are used around the world. You can find our degaussers in offices, data centers, hospitals, and battlefields as the fastest and most secure method of sanitizing decommissioned hard drives and tape of all data prior to disposal.
Almost everyone with a data security strategy makes plans to protect against front-end threats. Front-end threats include hacking, ransomware, viruses, and network intrusions. However, many fail to protect against the disastrous consequences of data security breaches from stockpiled or discarded magnetic and solid-state media. Many also use destruction techniques that don’t completely destroy the data, such as overwriting and shredding.
Garner Products’ mission is to prevent data breaches resulting from compromised end-of-life hard drives, solid-state drives, and tape.
SD: What is the main service your company offers?
Garner: Back in 1959, Garner began manufacturing degaussers to erase recordings on reel-to-reel tape. Now we manufacture a comprehensive line of hard drive and solid-state data destruction equipment from NSA Listed degaussers to physical destroyers with 10+ tons of crush force. Our IRONCLAD erasure verification system completes the package by verifying the destruction process and automatically generating certificates of erasure and destruction.
SD: What is something unique that helps you stay ahead of your competition?
Garner: Garner degaussers are engineered to be future-ready, meeting current and upcoming NSA (National Security Agency) standards. Our products are machined and assembled in the USA, promising the highest of quality, performance, and longevity. Garner products are currently deployed in over 120 countries, earning Garner the Presidential “E” award for success in exporting by the US Commerce Department in 2019.
SD: What do you think are the worst cyberthreats today?
Garner: Organizations who focus solely on front-end threats (hackers, ransomware) fall prey to data thieves who are after decommissioned hard drives and tape which still contain valuable data. Degaussing before disposal is the best way to be sure the data on magnetic media such as hard drives is forensically unrecoverable and won’t end up in the wrong hands.
