IPVanish has rolled out a new Double Hop VPN feature, offering users an additional layer of encryption and anonymity across their digital devices. The feature, now available on Windows, Mac, Chromebook, Android, and iOS, allows users to route their internet traffic through two separate VPN servers, which adds additional encryption to keep your data shielded and secure.

“With Double Hop enabled, your internet traffic detours through not one but two separate VPN servers, adding an extra shield of protection around your digital life,” IPVanish explained. This dual-layer routing makes it considerably harder for third parties, including hackers and ISPs, to trace online activities or intercept sensitive data.

The feature is especially useful for scenarios requiring heightened privacy, such as online research in high-censorship regions, financial transactions, and using public Wi-Fi while traveling. “For journalists, researchers, or activists working in high-censorship regions, maintaining greater anonymity is vital,” IPVanish explained. Double Hop provides an added layer of protection, allowing users to carry out sensitive activities securely.

While this enhanced security comes with a slight trade-off in connection speed due to the additional encryption process, IPVanish has worked to optimize performance. The feature also offers flexibility, enabling users to select server pairs in different regions for tailored security and anonymity.

Enabling Double Hop is straightforward and involves selecting entry and exit server locations within the IPVanish app. “Whether you’re on your computer at home, your tablet at a café, or your phone on the go, Double Hop ensures your personal information stays safe,” the company said.

In 2024, IPVanish also added its Threat Protection feature to Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and streaming devices, including Android TV and Fire TV. Threat Protection is an ad blocker that blocks ads and ad trackers, and it prevents you from accessing potentially malicious websites. It’s easy to enable the feature — you can find it under the Settings tab.
