ExpressVPN, the company behind the popular VPN service, released a new line of eSIM data packages. The eSIMs are launching on an associated website, Holiday.com.
SIM cards have been used alongside phones since the early years of cell phones, but traveling with them isn’t easy. Traditional SIMs need to be swapped out in each new country to get access to your mobile carrier and get an internet connection. You can also rely on public Wi-Fi while abroad, but this presents its own security risks.
In 2016, smartphone companies began using embedded eSIM cards, which are chips directly embedded into your device. These offer the same functionality as a normal SIM card, but they are able to be reprogrammed or rewritten.
By now, most smartphones are compatible with eSIM. In 2022, Apple became the first company to release a phone without reliance on SIM cards (Apple 14).
ExpressVPN released a new line of eSIM cards made to use while abroad. Instead of needing to rely on insecure methods, like constantly changing your SIM cards, you can pick up an eSIM from Holiday.com, embed it into your phone, and keep your internet connection wherever you are.
To use it, just launch the Holiday.com app and select which country you’re traveling to. Once you arrive, your phone will automatically connect to your local mobile carrier. It greatly simplifies the process of staying online, even if you frequently visit new countries.
“There are more than 200 countries to choose from, as well as regional and global plans,” ExpressVPN explained in a blog post. “You can install multiple eSIMs on your device, so you’re fully prepared for every destination on your itinerary before leaving home. You’ll also have the peace of mind of using internet data from a trusted source rather than relying on unfamiliar, potentially unsecured public Wi-Fi.”
