1Password, the well-known password manager, has rolled out an update with a handy new feature that simplifies sharing Wi-Fi passwords with others.

The latest feature allows users to generate a QR code to share Wi-Fi passwords, meaning guests can simply scan the QR code and connect to the network, without the hassle of having to show and type out the password.

“We’ve made it even easier to share your Wi-Fi credentials with nearby family and friends with a new improvement to the Wireless Router item in 1Password: automatic QR codes! Conveniently share your Wi-Fi network name and password via QR code with your nearby family and friends by having them scan the code — no links or extra taps needed,” the 1Password team said in a blog post announcing the new feature.

The app now automatically creates a login QR code for Wi-Fi credentials. Others can then connect to the Wi-Fi network by scanning the QR code with their devices.

You can also generate a QR code when creating a new entry by selecting “Wireless Router” after clicking the “New Item” button. Make sure to fill out both the “Network Name” and “Network Password” fields completely; the QR code will appear only after these entries are completed.

Note that if you have multiple Wi-Fi passwords saved under the same entry, like primary and guest networks, 1Password will automatically select the one marked as the “primary network” for the QR code. To ensure accuracy, it’s best to save each network in a separate entry.

For added convenience, the QR code appears automatically when viewing Wi-Fi network details in 1Password.

However, users who prefer not to have the QR code shown automatically can adjust this setting — just navigate to Settings > Security > Concealed Fields and disable “Always show Wi-Fi QR codes.” With the setting disabled, the QR code remains hidden until you choose to tap and reveal it for sharing.
