SafetyDetectives recently had the opportunity to sit down with Carsten Klein, CEO of KraLos, to explore the company’s groundbreaking approach to cybersecurity. With a career rooted in business information and IT systems, Klein’s journey toward co-founding KraLos was driven by a passion for innovation and a desire to tackle the growing challenges of web application security. Under his leadership, KraLos has introduced cutting-edge solutions like WEBOUNCER, a patented tool that takes web protection to the next level with its unique “digital twin” technology. In this interview, Klein sheds light on KraLos’ mission, its innovative approach to combating emerging threats, and the future of cybersecurity.

Can you share a bit about your journey leading up to your role as CEO of KraLos and what inspired you to focus on cybersecurity?

Ever since I was young man, I have always been interested in technology.   In school, that was my focus and I received a degree in Business Information.  I pursued a career dealing with IT systems and have extensive experience in that area.  Then about 7 years ago, after working in various positions such as IT administrator, I decided to go into business for myself.  It was at this time that my friend and former classmate, Christian Greiwe and I teamed up to form KraLos GmbH.  We saw the problems facing cybersecurity and knew they were only going to get worse.  We set out to find a better and more secure way to make the internet a safer place.

How would you describe KraLos’ mission and the unique value it brings to the cybersecurity landscape?

I would simply describe our mission as this:  “Innovation never ends.”  What we mean by this is that we do not do the same old thing using the same old technology.  We are constantly thinking of new ideas and innovating ways to solving problems.  Unlike most cyber security companies, we use our own new technology rather than relying on what s already available.  We are rainsing the standards of cyber security.

WEBOUNCER is one of KraLos’ flagship products. Can you explain how it works and what makes it different from other web application security tools?

Yes, WEBOUNCER is our flagship product (although we are working on various groundbreaking products including the areas of encryption and anti-phishing).

WEBOUNCER is completely unique from any other product on the market today.

WEBOUNCER is our specially designed, PATENTED software that is constantly securing your Website or Web Application and protecting your data.  And, with its easy-to-use interface and all-encompassing data analytics, WEBOUNCER is accessible to a wide range of users, making it the perfect solution for anyone looking to protect their web applications.

HOW?

  • WEBOUNCER creates a clone of your front end of your website which looks and performs exactly as the actual site.  There is NO data attached to the cloned site.  The server is in another separate location and the cloned site doesn’t know where – or even that is a cloned site.
  • This cloned site is being observed and protected 24/7 by WEBOUNCER’s I-AGENT.
  • The I-AGENT controls all traffic to the cloned site and can verify legitimate and illegitimate requests.
  • If there is an illegitimate request or any attempt to manipulate data or inject malicious code, or anything outside the normal parameters, WEBOUNCER realizes this in real time and quarantines the tampering attempt for forensic investigation while restoring a backup IN REAL TIME.

Many people are familiar with Web Application Firewall and WEBOUNCER is somewhat similar. The main differences between WEBOUNCER and a WAF is that

a) there is no data attached to WEBOUNCER#s cloned website (digital twin) and

b) WEBOUNCER can not be bypassed.

You can google how to bypass a WAF but there is no way to get around WEBOUNCER’s defenses.

As cyber threats continue to evolve, how does KraLos stay ahead of emerging attack vectors, and what role does innovation play in your approach?

As I mentioned above, we are constantly innovating.  We do not rely on existing methods alrwdy in use but are constantly striving to stay ahead of the game.  For example, ‘Zero Day’ attacks are getting a lot of attention but as you know, that just means they have never been seen before.  WEBOUNCER’s advanced technology protects against all known and UNKNOWN (zero day) attacks.

In your opinion, what are the biggest challenges businesses face when it comes to web application security, and how can KraLos help address them?

In my opinion, I honestly believe the biggest challenges businesses face is lack of knowledge when it comes to web application security. Most are relying on old tech or even worse, not understanding the real threat of a web attack and all the costs and headaches associated with such an attack.

The bigger firms solicit their products like web application firewalls as the end all and be all of web security.  We all know that is not true because company websites are still getting hacked and businesses are still suffering from ransomware attacks and date breaches.

We can help them with WEBOUNCER and our soon to be released solution to the problem of phishing emails.

Looking ahead, what key trends do you see shaping the future of cybersecurity, and how is KraLos preparing for these changes?

As more and more people are doing business via the internet, cyber crimes will continue to grow.  By keeping data secure and separate from the internet – so that if a website is breached, there will be no loss of valuable information and no chance of a ransomware attack, we will help businesses from experiencing the loss of money, customer trust and damaged reputation.  This will be further enhanced when we roll out our solution to the growing problem of phishing emails by taking the ‘human factor’ out of the equation.

With our encryption tools such as SHADOWKEY and comFORTRESS, will help in the areas of secure communication.

Of course, we will not stop innovating because here at KraLos, “Innovation never ends.”
