In a recent SafetyDetectives interview, Caleb Zaharris, Director of Marketing at TSplus, shares his insights and experiences in the IT field, focusing on remote access and cybersecurity solutions. Caleb discusses his journey from network engineering to marketing, highlighting the flagship product, TSplus Remote Access, and its advantages over traditional Microsoft RDS environments. He also emphasizes the importance of planning for secure remote access and offers best practices for enhancing cybersecurity in a remote working landscape. Caleb sheds light on emerging trends in remote access and the critical factors businesses should consider when choosing a remote access solution.

Can you share a bit about your background and your journey to becoming the Director of Marketing at TSplus?

My background is in the IT field as a managed services provider. I spent about 15 years doing network engineering and administration work through a handful of managed service providers in the US. I moved to France about 10 years ago and met up with our current company there. I worked my way through their marketing department, upgrading their English language presentations and voiceovers, and gradually became the Director of Marketing.

What are some of the TSplus flagship services?

Our flagship product is TSplus Remote Access. It’s an alternative to Citrix Workspace, or Microsoft RDS environments, providing application delivery and remote desktop services.

We also work in the cybersecurity field, with a specific focus on application server security. That means access management, ransomware protection, IP List managing, and things like that.

How can businesses ensure secure remote access for their employees without compromising on productivity?

Planning is the biggest part. Understanding your work needs is crucial. We work with companies through our account management services and our sales and presale staff to understand their employee load and needs. Anybody can deploy a server, and with our products, it’s even easier because we focus on making them easy to install and use. But the key to success is planning—understanding your security needs and server loads. For example, having 30 employees using Outlook is different from having the same number of employees using AutoCAD. The dynamic for how the environment is built changes. If you just buy 3 generic servers and deliver your applications, hoping for the best, you won’t get the optimal results. Proper planning ensures optimal results.

What best practices does TSplus recommend for businesses to enhance their cybersecurity posture using your products?

Starting at the beginning with physical security—keeping your devices safe and in your possession—is crucial. Beyond that, using two-factor authentication for logins is essential. We offer SSO compatibility and two-factor authentication for our login processes. Using the cybersecurity product that I mentioned (Advanced Security) is also high on our list of best practices. We want people to have a trouble-free experience, and keeping malicious actors out of your network is key to that.

In the current landscape of remote work, what key trends are you observing in remote access and cybersecurity solutions?

There’s a growing need for remote access beyond the classic business office space. We’re finding more opportunities in the industry and manufacturing sectors. As things become automated, there are fewer people on the manufacturing work floor, but those automations still require human oversight, which is where Remote Access comes in. Whether the office is in the same facility or across the country, Remote Access allows for necessary oversight from a distance.

What are the key factors that businesses should consider when choosing a remote access solution?

Ease of use, stability, and cost are the top factors that come up in conversations with clients. These are our focus points when creating or updating our products. Security is also important, but ease of use and cost are usually the first concerns clients have. We often bring the security conversation into the discussion because it’s not always in the top five things people ask about when exploring new remote access solutions.
