iTop VPN Review: Quick Expert Summary

iTop VPN is fast, has excellent streaming support, and is easy to use. It also has a decent server network of 1,800+ servers in 44 countries that are evenly spread out around the world. The VPN comes with dedicated servers for streaming, torrenting, and gaming and has servers for accessing social media apps in countries like the US, the UK, and Russia.

iTop VPN also offers extra features, such as:

  • Split-tunneling. Lets you choose which apps use the VPN and which are excluded from the VPN tunnel.
  • Ad blocker. Blocks ads and pop-ups for a cleaner browsing experience.
  • Browser Privacy. Cleans the browser cache and data, which deletes identifying information that third parties use to track you.
  • Security Reinforce. Suggests ways of improving the security of your PC to reduce vulnerabilities.
  • Speed test. An accurate test of your connection speeds when using the VPN.
  • IP Checker. Allows you to conduct random tests to ensure that your IP is hidden behind one from the VPN.

I like iTop VPN, but it has some flaws. It lacks some advanced security features, like full leak protection, and its no-logs policy hasn’t been audited. Moreover, its quick-connect feature doesn’t always connect you to the fastest server in your location. Plus, its customer support is quite limited, and the email support can be very slow.

iTop VPN has a free plan, as well as multiple paid plans. All of its plans have a 30-day money-back guarantee.

iTop VPN Full Review — Intuitive Apps & Good for Streaming, Torrenting & Gaming

iTop VPN Full Review — Intuitive Apps & Good for Streaming, Torrenting & Gaming

I spent a few weeks testing and researching iTop VPN to see how it compares to the best VPNs on the market. While it’s not my favorite VPN, it has a lot going for it that makes it worthy of consideration.

iTop VPN is good for streaming, torrenting, and gaming — it has 19+ dedicated servers for streaming, 5+ optimized servers for torrenting, and 10+ optimized servers for gaming. It works with numerous streaming sites, and it even has dedicated servers for accessing social media platforms.

The VPN also has other perks, like user-friendly apps and extra features, including split-tunneling, an ad blocker, Browser Privacy, and more. It also has fast speeds for browsing, streaming, and torrenting.

iTop VPN Plans & Pricing — Good Value Yearly Plan + Free Option

iTop VPN has several plans — it offers a 1-month, 6-month, and 12-month plan (plus 12 additional months for free). All plans allow 5 simultaneous connections. At $2.60 / month, the 1-year plan provides the best value since it basically acts as a 2-year deal. But I think VPNs like ExpressVPN, and Private Internet Access offer better value than iTop VPN — all of them include better security, privacy features, and streaming and torrenting support, have faster speeds, and come with more extra features.

The provider comes with a free plan. The free plan doesn’t require registration or credit card details. However, it restricts you to servers in 6 countries, 1 connection, and only a meager 700 MB of data per day, which is only enough for an hour or two of basic browsing. It also lacks extra features, like an ad blocker and split-tunneling. Proton VPN has the best free VPN plan, as it comes with unlimited bandwidth, access to servers in 3 countries (the US, Netherlands, and Japan), has faster speeds, is ad-free, and doesn’t store any user information. iTop VPN also has a trial period during which all servers are available with no data limits, but the account will expire after 3 days if you don’t renew it.

iTop VPN accepts multiple payment methods, including credit/debit cards, PayPal, Maestro Card, and Bank Transfer. iTop backs all plans with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

iTop VPN Features — All the Basics & Some Good Extra Tools

iTop VPN comes with the following security features:

  • 256-bit AES encryption. iTop VPN secures your data with military-grade encryption.
  • No-logs policy. iTop VPN doesn’t log your traffic history, personal information, or IP address.
  • Kill switch. Disables your internet access if the VPN connection drops. However, it isn’t enabled by default, so you’ll need to turn it on manually.

iTop VPN also offers IPv6 and DNS leak protection. Unfortunately, it doesn’t support WebRTC leak protection. Top vendors, like ExpressVPN, come with full leak protection.

This VPN provider also includes perfect forward secrecy, which regularly changes the encryption keys for each session to minimize the amount of data potential hackers could access. Moreover, it has RAM-only servers that write data to the RAM instead of the hard drive. So, each server reboot erases all data.

The VPN has several protocols, including Auto (recommended), OpenVPN (TCP and UDP), and HTTPS. The TCP protocol is the most secure one, while UDP is used for faster network speeds. HTTPS doubles your encryption by using 2 servers instead of 1 (just like NordVPN’s Double VPN servers). However, I don’t like that iTop VPN doesn’t come with WireGuard, which is one of the fastest protocols.

iTop VPN also offers additional features, like split-tunneling, an ad blocker, Browser Privacy, Security Reinforce, a built-in speed test, and a free IP checker.

Split-Tunneling — Works Really Well

iTop VPN Features — All the Basics & Some Good Extra Tools

iTop VPN has a great split-tunneling feature that lets you exclude apps and websites outside the VPN tunnel. To test the feature, I connected to a VPN server to download a large file, and I routed my bank’s mobile app through my local network, as many banking apps block VPNs. It worked great — I was able to torrent and check my bank account simultaneously.

The split-tunneling feature is available on Windows and Android. Although most VPNs don’t support this feature on iOS and macOS, top VPNs like ExpressVPN offer split-tunneling on additional operating systems, such as macOS and routers.

If you want an excellent split-tunneling feature, I recommend Private Internet Access. Besides excluding apps and websites, it also lets you redirect IP addresses to or from the VPN.

Overall, I’m a big fan of iTop VPN’s split-tunneling feature. I like that you can either include or exclude apps from the VPN tunnel. However, I would like to see iTop VPN include this feature on macOS and give an option to split-tunnel IP addresses as well.

Ad Blocker — Gets Rid of Some Ads

iTop VPN Features — All the Basics & Some Good Extra Tools

iTop VPN comes with a built-in ad blocker that blocks ads and pop-ups. In my tests, it got rid of some ads but not all of them. I prefer Private Internet Access’s MACE tool more, which successfully gets rid of all ads and ad trackers and blocks malicious sites — it’s our #1-ranked ad blocker.

The ad blocker allows you to create an ads block whitelist for certain sites on which you don’t want the ads to be blocked. This is helpful if you know that the website is safe and doesn’t need ad blocking. The ad blocker is available on the iOS and Windows apps.

Overall, iTop VPN’s ad blocker is decent — it can block some ads and pop-up ads. That said, I would like to see a malware blocker added to block connections to malicious sites.

Browser Privacy — Great for Detecting Vulnerabilities (Desktop Only)

iTop VPN Features — All the Basics & Some Good Extra Tools

The Browser Privacy feature analyzes your browsing history and then gives you information on the number of items that can expose your privacy. By clicking on the Clean button, all of the malicious browsing data is deleted. You’ll need to close the browser that you’ve opened to clear the browsing history.

I like that you can enable the Auto Clean option, which automatically clears browser history, cookies, and caches. However, this feature is only available on desktop apps and to premium users.

Overall, the Browser Privacy feature is great for detecting potential vulnerabilities and clearing the browsing history. I would like to see iTop VPN include this feature on other major devices.

Security Reinforce — Improves Your PC Security

iTop VPN Features — All the Basics & Some Good Extra Tools

The Security Reinforce feature scans your PC and gives you items that should be fixed to prevent your PC from getting hacked. This feature is only available on the desktop apps.

It suggested fixing a couple of items on my Windows PC, such as enabling Windows SmartScreen and disabling Remote Assistance Services. I also like that it provided information on why you need to disable or enable certain items. For example, it states that the Windows SmartScreen helps to identify phishing and malware sites.

However, this feature is mostly for beginners, as it just lists tips that can be easily found on other apps. I don’t think advanced users can benefit a lot from this feature.

Overall, the Security Reinforce feature is helpful for improving your PC security. However, I would like to see more deeper analysis that will benefit advanced users.

Built-In Speed Test — Convenient & Accurate

iTop VPN Features — All the Basics & Some Good Extra Tools

iTop VPN has a useful and accurate built-in speed test that you can use to quickly determine your VPN speeds. You’re able to check your speeds when using different apps, like YouTube, Netflix, Spotify, Max, TED, Google, Discord, Instagram, and Pixiv.

In my tests, iTop VPN’s speed test results were accurate — the speed results were the same as the ones conducted using a third-party speed test site Ookla. However, only the iOS app comes with a built-in speed test.

Overall, iTop VPN’s built-in speed test is easy to use, accurate, and very convenient.

IP Checker — Great Way to Verify an Address

iTop VPN Features — All the Basics & Some Good Extra Tools

iTop VPN has a free IP address checker. It gives you information on your IP address, like location, latitude, longitude, and postal code. It even gives you a Google map showing where you’re located. It’s available on the iOS and Mac apps.

I like that you do a leak check inside the app, instead of using a third-party app. I never experienced any leaks in my tests, and the IP address checker always showed the VPN’s IP address instead of mine. That being said, ExpressVPN has a bunch of cool free tools, such as an IP checker, DNS and WebRTC leak test, and a password generator.

Overall, I really like iTop VPN’s free IP address checker, as it’s fast and is a great way to verify an IP address.

iTop VPN Privacy & Security — No-Logs Policy Hasn’t Been Audited

iTop VPN doesn’t log your IP address, browsing history, or bandwidth. However, the VPN’s privacy policy states that it collects your email address and phone number upon registration. It also collects some data through cookies, customer service, and third-party apps, like Google Analytics and payment service providers.

iTop VPN Privacy & Security — No-Logs Policy Hasn’t Been Audited

iTop VPN is headquartered in Hong Kong, which is under China’s control. This is not good news because China’s data privacy is quite poor. However, since iTop VPN doesn’t store user data, it wouldn’t have any to hand over to the government.

I would like to see iTop VPN undergo an independent audit of its no-logs policy, as most top VPNs like ExpressVPN have done so numerous times. This would prove iTop VPN doesn’t store any logs, especially since it’s headquartered in a country that isn’t privacy-friendly.

iTop VPN Speed & Performance — Fast Speeds on All Servers

I ran speed tests in all 44 countries where iTop VPN has a server and experienced a small speed decrease of 3% on average. So, I was able to browse, watch videos, and torrent with fast speeds across all servers.

I first ran a speed test without being connected to the VPN to get a baseline for my speeds. Next, I connected to a server near North Macedonia, where I’m based.

iTop VPN Speed & Performance — Fast Speeds on All Servers

My speeds decreased only by 1%, so my online browsing remained unchanged — websites and HD and 4K videos loaded instantly, and I was able to watch TV shows and movies on my local streaming platforms without any issues.

Finally, I connected to a distant server in the US. However, I didn’t notice any major differences in speed loss — websites, 4K videos, and HD videos still loaded instantly, but there was minor buffering while skipping through 4K and HD videos. I downloaded large torrents very fast and played online video games without any lag.

iTop VPN Speed & Performance — Fast Speeds on All Servers

Overall, iTop VPN has fast speeds on distant and nearby servers. I enjoyed fast speeds for streaming my local TV shows and saw only minor buffering while torrenting and gaming on distant servers.

iTop VPN Servers & IP Addresses — Decent Server Network With Many Specialized Servers

iTop VPN has 1,800+ servers in 44 countries that are evenly spread out in Europe, the US, Asia, and the Middle East. Though this is great global coverage, most top VPNs like CyberGhost VPN have a much larger server network.

The VPN has dedicated servers for streaming, torrenting, and gaming. It has 19+ dedicated servers for streaming various platforms in the US, the UK, Germany, South Africa, and Australia. Moreover, it has 5 dedicated servers for torrenting and 10+ for gaming, but I didn’t notice any difference in the speed compared to the regular servers while gaming. Finally, it has dedicated social media servers in the US, the UK, and Russia.

I like that iTop VPN shows you the server load percentage (how many active users are connected to a server) and latency, which shows how long it takes data to travel from your device to the server. This helps you choose the best server for you (if you don’t want to use the Smart Location tool).

iTop VPN also comes with a really useful IP Configure feature, which allows you to configure your IP address. For example, you can choose between a Best Server IP, which is the best server IP for all VPN connections, a Dynamic IP that changes for each VPN session, and a Static IP which is the same for every VPN connection.

Overall, iTop VPN has a decent server network that is evenly spread out across the globe. It has dedicated servers for streaming, torrenting, gaming, and social media platforms. Moreover, it displays speed metrics for each server and allows you to configure your IP address.

iTop VPN Streaming & Torrenting — Really Good for Streaming, Decent for Torrenting

iTop VPN is really good for streaming — it has 20+ dedicated servers for streaming that work with Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, Hulu, and BBC iPlayer, as well as with less-popular sites like Crunchyroll and Pluto TV. Even so, I still prefer ExpressVPN, as it works with 100+ streaming services.

iTop VPN Streaming & Torrenting — Really Good for Streaming, Decent for Torrenting

iTop VPN is only decent for torrenting. Unfortunately, it only has 5 dedicated servers for torrenting, which is very small. Luckily, it works with all major torrenting clients, like Vuze, qBittorrent, uTorrent, and Deluge. However, it doesn’t support features like port forwarding or SOCKS5 proxy servers that top VPNs like Private Internet Access offer. As for security when torrenting, I ran leak tests on 10+ server locations while connected to each P2P server, and I never saw any leaks.

Overall, iTop VPN is good for streaming and torrenting. It works with popular sites like Netflix, BBC iPlayer, and Amazon Prime. Also, it has 5 dedicated servers for torrenting and works with all major torrenting clients.

iTop VPN Bypassing Censorship — Doesn’t Work in Restrictive Countries

iTop VPN doesn’t consistently work in restrictive countries. The customer support informed me that it only works in Saudi Arabia and Indonesia. If you want a VPN that can consistently bypass internet firewalls, I recommend using ExpressVPN.

iTop VPN Bypassing Censorship — Doesn’t Work in Restrictive Countries

iTop VPN Ease of Use: Mobile & Desktop Apps — Intuitive & Feature-Rich

iTop VPN has apps for iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS. It’s easy to install iTop VPN’s apps — it took me 1 minute to install it on my Android and iOS smartphones and less than 2 minutes on my Windows 10 PC and MacBook Pro.

How to Install iTop VPN (Just 3 Simple Steps):

  • Sign up for iTop VPN. Choose the plan that’s best for you. I recommend picking a longer-term plan for better value.
  • Download and install its apps. On desktop, get the app from the provider’s website. On your phone, find the app on your device’s app store. Then, just follow the installation wizard’s instructions.
  • Launch the VPN app. Choose a server and press the connect button. That’s it!

Android — Easy to Use & Available in Several Languages

iTop VPN Ease of Use: Mobile & Desktop Apps — Intuitive & Feature-Rich

iTop VPN’s Android app is easy to use and has good features. I like how easy it is to manually pick a server, and you can quickly open an app without having to search for it on your phone. What’s more, the app is available in several languages.

I like that the Android app has a split-tunneling feature, and you can choose between 3 protocols — Auto (Recommended), TCP, and UDP.

Overall, I like iTop VPN’s Android app. It has an intuitive interface that makes it easy to connect to a server, is available in several languages, and has a split-tunneling feature.

iOS — Includes Helpful Extras

iTop VPN Ease of Use: Mobile & Desktop Apps — Intuitive & Feature-Rich

iTop VPN’s iOS app is easy to use and feature-rich. It’s simple to connect to a server, it comes with an ad blocker, built-in speed tests, and an IP Checker. It also has a kill switch feature (most iOS apps don’t have this).

What’s more, iTop VPN has a Wi-Fi security feature that informs you about suspicious networks based on the level of protection of your Wi-Fi password, and more.

Unlike the Android app, it lacks a split-tunneling feature. That said, both apps have the same protocols like Auto (Recommended), TCP, and UDP.

Overall, I like iTop VPN’s iOS app. It has an intuitive interface, a kill switch, and helpful extra features, like speed tests and an IP Checker.

Windows/Mac (Desktop) — User-Friendly & Full-Featured, Especially on Windows

iTop VPN Ease of Use: Mobile & Desktop Apps — Intuitive & Feature-Rich

iTop VPN’s desktop apps have a user-friendly design, and they’re easy to use. They both come with a Smart Location feature, but it isn’t very reliable. Both apps have a Quick Access feature that offers shortcuts to certain servers for specific purposes, such as Watch Netflix, Watch Max, Use WhatsApp, Watch Disney+, and more. Plus, they give access to the same protocols, including Auto, TCP, UDP, and HTTPS.

Both apps come with extra features, such as a Security Reinforce feature and Browser Privacy. You can also customize your launch settings — for example, you can choose to connect to the VPN when the PC starts, when you connect to a public Wi-Fi, or when a specific app is launched.

The Windows app has an iTop VPN Mini, which is a mini icon that allows you to quickly connect and disconnect from the VPN. What’s more, it displays the VPN connection details, such as the upload and download speed, your IP address, and the server name when the VPN is connected. Plus, the split-tunneling feature and the ad blocker are only available on the Windows app.

The Mac app comes with an IP checker, which gives you details about your IP address, such as location, latitude, longitude, and postal code, though I’m not sure how useful this is.

Overall, iTop VPN’s desktop apps are easy to use, but the Windows app is a bit better as it has split-tunneling, an ad blocker, and comes with an iTop VPN Mini.

iTop VPN Apps: Is iTop VPN Easy to Use?

Yes, iTop VPN has easy-to-use apps for Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS. All of the apps have a similar interface that makes them simple to navigate. Moreover, the apps are available in 20+ languages.

The desktop apps are quite user-friendly, but the Windows app comes with a few extra features. The iOS app has a kill switch feature, a built-in speed test, and an IP checker. However, the iOS and Mac apps lack a split-tunneling feature, which the Android and Windows apps have.

iTop VPN Customer Support — Direct Support Is Slow but Helpful

iTop VPN’s customer support is decent. It has Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), email support, detailed tutorials on how to activate your account, and a user manual.

I like the user manual — it explains in detail the features and settings of the VPN on the Windows, iOS, Android, and Mac apps. Plus, it comes with screenshots. The FAQs cover topics such as setting up the account, feature explanations, and troubleshooting issues. Plus, there’s a section on how to activate your premium account and upgrade your free account. That said, I didn’t find these guides quite helpful because I had to contact the VPN’s customer support most of the time to find an answer.

iTop VPN Customer Support — Direct Support Is Slow but Helpful

I contacted iTop VPN customer support via email. I sent iTop VPN many email messages during different periods of time. I was quite disappointed that it took the VPN’s customer support 1 or 2 days to respond to my emails. I didn’t even get a reply to certain emails that I sent. That said, the responses were helpful, so I didn’t have to send a follow-up email.

iTop VPN Customer Support — Direct Support Is Slow but Helpful

iTop VPN’s absence of a live chat feature is a disappointment — this is something most premium VPNs provide. ExpressVPN provides a really helpful 24/7 live chat.

Overall, I’m not a big fan of iTop VPN’s customer support. It doesn’t have 24/7 live chat, and the FAQs and guides don’t come with detailed explanations. The email support is quite slow, but the responses were very helpful.

Is iTop VPN Worth It?

iTop VPN has fast speeds across all servers and excellent streaming support. It also has dedicated servers for streaming, torrenting, gaming, and social media apps in quite a few countries. Moreover, its server network of 1,800+ servers in 44 countries is evenly spread out.

I’m a big fan of iTop VPN’s extra features — the VPN comes with extras like split-tunneling, an ad blocker, and Security Reinforce. It also has configurable IP addresses and Browser Privacy.

However, iTop VPN has some flaws. Its no-logs policy hasn’t been independently audited, and it lacks full leak protection. Additionally, the Smart Location feature doesn’t always connect you to the fastest server, and the customer support is limited, lacking a 24/7 live chat. Plus, the email support provided me with slow responses.

iTop VPN offers a free plan and affordable long-term plans. Each plan is backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does iTop VPN work with Netflix?

Yes, iTop VPN works with Netflix. The VPN has 20+ dedicated servers for streaming, and it reliably works with Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, BBC iPlayer, and Max

Is iTop VPN free?

Yes, iTop VPN offers a free plan. However, the free plan restricts you to servers in just 6 countries, allows only 1 connection, includes a lousy 700 MB of data per day, and lacks extra features, like an ad blocker and split-tunneling. Upgrading to the provider’s paid plans is a better choice, as you will get access to servers in 44 countries, unlimited data, and access to all the extra features.

Is iTop VPN safe?

Yes, as iTop VPN comes with essential VPN security features, including 256-bit AES encryption, a kill switch, and a no-logs policy. It also has advanced security features like RAM-only servers, which don’t write data to the hard drive, so every server reset wipes all data, and perfect forward secrecy, which changes the encryption key for each VPN session so that hackers can’t compromise it.

Is iTop VPN good for torrenting?

Yes, iTop VPN is a decent VPN for torrenting. It has 5 dedicated servers for torrenting, works with the most popular torrent clients, and has very fast download speeds. It also has a kill switch and didn’t leak my data in my tests. However, there are better VPNs for torrenting.

It has all of the essential security features and comes with extra features like split-tunneling, an ad blocker, Browser Privacy, Security Reinforce, and more. It also has dedicated servers for streaming, torrenting, gaming, and social media apps. But iTop VPN is missing full leak protection and its no-logs policy hasn’t been audited.
