Safety Detectives: Please share your company background, how you got started, and your mission.
Nimbus Blue: Nimbus Blue sprang to life in 2010 when our founder, David Tawse, decided it was time to create an IT business in Aberdeen that focussed on customer service first. This came from his background of working in retail and leisure but combining his love of all things tech. Now, Nimbus Blue serves companies far beyond its Aberdeen roots.
SD: What is the main service your company offers?
NB: We’re a managed services provider, meaning that we provide IT and security services to businesses on an ongoing basis to save them the trouble and cost of having skilled resources in-house.
SD: What is something unique that helps you stay ahead of your competition?
NB: Our founder worked in digital forensics for a number of years within the private sector and has brought the experience of this to our managed services. This means that we bring a “security first, prepare for response” approach for our customers.
SD: What do you think are the worst cyberthreats today?
NB: In the small business space, ransomware and business email compromise (BEC) continue to pose the most significant threats. Despite the media attention these kinds of attacks have had over the last year or two, business owners are not seeing themselves as a target and, as such, are not taking steps to protect themselves. We’ve seen small businesses in our area lose between £2.500 and £150,000 (excluding response and recovery expenses) in these types of attacks and, although they are not the headline-grabbing figures we see in the news, the losses are very painful for the businesses involved.
