In a recent interview with SafetyDetectives, Simon Davis, the Head of Marketing at RoboForm, shared his insights on the evolving landscape of password management and the unique strategies that RoboForm employs to stay ahead in the market. With over a decade of experience at RoboForm and a diverse background spanning from startups to Fortune 500 companies, Davis offers a deep understanding of what it takes to succeed in the competitive field of password management. In this discussion, he highlights RoboForm’s commitment to providing a seamless user experience, robust security features, and continuous innovation to meet the growing demands of digital security.
Can you tell us about your background and current role at RoboForm?
I currently head up marketing for RoboForm, where I have been for over ten years. I have previously worked everywhere from startup to Fortune 500 companies.
How does RoboForm differentiate itself from other password managers on the market?
RoboForm is the OG password manager. We work across all platforms, our user experience is second-to-none, and we have top-notch customer support. Even though we have been around for a while, RoboForm is very actively developed. This is why we have the best password and form filling accuracy on the market. We also offer the most support options of any password manager on the market.
How does RoboForm ensure the seamless integration of its services across different platforms and devices?
We have seen many platforms come and go over the years, so our data architecture is platform agnostic.
Can you explain the security measures RoboForm implements to protect user data?
RoboForm secures user data using AES256 encryption, a zero-knowledge architecture where only the end-user holds their Master Password, and multi-factor authentication on top of that. All data is encrypted locally on the end-user’s device, and RoboForm never stores or knows your Master Password. We also offer features like breach alerts and a Security Center to manage and improve password security. Additionally, RoboForm undergoes third-party audits to ensure our security measures meet industry standards. More information on our security model is at https://www.roboform.com/security
What are some common misconceptions users have about password security, and how does RoboForm address them?
The most pervasive misconception is that you shouldn’t use a password manager at all, because the provider (or hackers) will be able to see them on our server. In fact, due to our zero-knowledge infrastructure, we have no way to access user data, and neither could an intruder to our systems.
What trends do you see emerging in the password management industry, and how is RoboForm adapting to these trends?
A big trend toward increasing security is wider adoption of two-factor authentication (2FA). RoboForm supports 2FA both by requiring it in order to access RoboForm, as well as with our built-in TOTP authenticator. Another recent development is the adoption of passkeys. RoboForm allows for secure storing and sharing of passkeys.
