With over 12 years of experience in SaaS and technology, Uzair discusses his journey in the online security field and iProVPN’s mission to offer affordable subscriptions while ensuring security and internet freedom for all. In this interview, he elaborates on the importance of VPNs for online security, dispels common misconceptions, and highlights iProVPN’s flagship features, including 256-bit AES encryption and a strict no-logs policy.
Can you introduce yourself and talk about your journey in the online security field?
I’m Uzair Javed. My journey began in 2013. After graduating with a degree in Computer Science, I consciously decided to pursue a career in the security niche. With over 12 years of experience in SaaS and technology, I have consistently focused on improving online security measures. Currently, I am privileged to hold the position of director at iProVPN, where we are a dedicated team fostering a secure online environment, enabling users to browse the internet with freedom and confidence. I am enthusiastic about advancing further on this journey.
Tell me about iProVPN and what are its flagship features?
iProVPN was born out of the increasing demand for VPN services during the Covid pandemic. Our mission is to provide affordable subscriptions, ensuring security and internet freedom for all. Our flagship features include 256-bit AES encryption, a strict no-logs policy, a kill switch, and secure protocols (OpenVPN, WireGuard, and IKEv2/IPSec).
Can you explain in simple terms how a VPN works and why it’s important for online security?
A VPN (Virtual Private Network) encrypts your internet connection, creating a secure tunnel between your device and the internet. This process shields your online activities from prying eyes, hiding your IP address and allowing access to restricted content. It’s akin to a protective barrier safeguarding your data from hackers and surveillance.
In what ways can a VPN help individuals protect their personal information while browsing on public Wi-Fi networks?
Using a VPN on public Wi-Fi encrypts your data, safeguarding it from hackers. By masking your IP address, it enhances anonymity and prevents eavesdropping. This ensures that personal information like passwords and bank details remain protected from theft and snooping.
How does using a VPN impact internet speed and performance, particularly for streaming services?
Using a VPN can occasionally slow down internet speed, especially for streaming, due to factors such as server distance, encryption overhead, and server load. However, with a premium VPN like iProVPN, we continuously monitor server loads. If a server becomes congested, we swiftly redirect traffic to other servers to ensure a seamless experience for our users. Interestingly, in some cases, using a VPN can actually increase internet speed, as seen in regions like South Korea where ISPs throttle speeds, and VPNs can bypass these limitations.
What are some common misconceptions about VPNs, and how would you address them?
In the digital era, misconceptions about Free and Premium VPNs abound. Recent incidents, such as the compromise of over 360 million user records by the free VPN service SuperVPN, highlight the risks associated with free VPNs. These breaches expose sensitive data, including email addresses, IP addresses, and browsing history, posing a significant threat to user privacy. While ISPs may monitor data, it’s concerning that free VPNs compromise user data, constituting a data leak crime. To ensure privacy and security, investing in a paid VPN service is crucial. Premium services offer robust encryption, reliable server infrastructure, and customer support. Moreover, premium VPNs often provide refund options, allowing users to claim a full refund if unsatisfied. It’s imperative to prioritize data security over cost, as safeguarding personal information and online activities is paramount.
